Executive Summary – Grand River Waterway Mussel Surveys
Reconnaissance surveys revealed that the 13 downstream most sites (Site 1 near the City of Lamont to Site 13 near the 28th Street Bridge) did not contain live mussels; substrate at these sites consisted of unstable sand, which is generally unsuitable for mussel colonization. To determine the amount and location of the pilings in the river, that present an unnatural hazard to boating, the survey will use Multi Beam Sonar technology. This project will be completed in April/May of 2016.
